5 New Halloween Games To Play

Today is Halloween! That means most games have either Halloween themed items (Rocket League) or Halloween games themselves. Today we take a look at the latest released this year!

These aren't in the order of worst to best, just a random list.

5. Hide And Spook: The Haunted Alchemist

Kicking off this list we have Hide And Spook: The Haunted Alchemist. At the time of writing, it is the latest game to be released on Steam. Using the capabilities of VR, the ghosts must blow out the alchemists' candles without being spotted.

4. Killing Room

This combination of rogue-like and FPS creates an interesting take on a reality show. The player must impress an audience (virtual or real using twitch streaming) and work their way through traps and monsters.

3. Hide And Shriek

Scare or be scared. Hide And Shriek is a 2 player game where you must scare your opponent in order to win.

2. White Noise 2

A 4v1 horror taking in the style of Evolve. Stick with your friends or get killed by the prey!

1. Through The Woods

A walk through the woods can go wrong. Through The Woods is set in a Norwegian forest and the rest is a surprise ;).

Weekly Roundup #13

The story of Rocket League, EA bans a country from accessing their games and Titanfall 2 gets released.

Former Gamespot employee Danny o'Dwyer left his job just over a month ago in order to start a documentary company called Noclip. So far they are receiving near $20,000 a month from Patreon supporters. Tomorrow will be the arrival of their first video, how to build a rocket and on the 1st, how to launch a rocket. Both are based on Rocket League and go in depth on how the successful sports game came of origin.

Speaking of Origin EA has banned an entire country from accessing their services and games. Reddit user trivial_sublime took to /r/Gaming and explained how his home country Myanmar was not allowed to play games that they bought. He goes on to explain how he had spent 100s of dollars on the Battlefield franchise and only to see it disappear. You can read the whole post here.

Lastly, the long-awaited Titanfall 2 saw its release on Friday but is not getting the attention it needs according to other news outlets. Nonetheless, fans of the original seem to be returning to the sequel.

Our Thoughts on the Console War

The 'console war' has been going on since the start of video games. Over the years we have seen big manufacturer fighting over fans as if they were points they need to acquire.

What do we think about this? The PC is the only console worth getting.

Before we start we would like to say that all consoles are great in their own way and we will be basing this off opinions of PC gamers.

The PC has been around since the dawn of gaming and since then has been the go-to place for retro games and new. With almost all the latest titles (with the exception of games like Destiny) releasing on the PC every year, it's hard not to ignore the success of the model.

Of course, some people argue that they are expensive, which is not true. I bought my computer for £600, the same amount for a new ps4. Not only does it run games better, but it also outlives it. My PC is expected to run all new games on ultra for 5 years, with them running on medium for another 2 then the rest on low. This easily beats the Xbox One and the PS4 as not only can you play new games, but old games as well.

Classics that were available on last gen consoles are not around on the latest (with the exception of the Xbox). emulators and Steam provides games that were made before 2013.

The last point is the fact PC gamers don't have to pay £40 a year to access online features in games. Steam allows you to play PC games as long as you wish (and every weekend you are given a free game to play for the weekend!).

What do you guys think? Are you a console fan or PC? Let us know in the comments ;)

Weekly Roundup #12

Battlefield 1, Nintendo switch and the Rocket League championships.

This week has seen some interesting stories in gaming. To start off with Battlefield 1 was released this Friday and has seen some mixed reviews from gamers and critics alike.

Next up the 'NX' was announced in the form of the Nintendo Switch. Again receiving mixed reviews it bought up a lot of questions such as how is a console that small able to run Skyrim at 60 FPS.

Lastly the Rocket League Championships playoffs were played last night (and is going on as we speak). The 8 teams clashed with a chance to win $250,000 and the results will be revelaed in early November.

Why Limited Time Items are Bad for Video Games

This has been a topic that has been bothering me recently, limited time items.

Rocket League has started to give drops for Halloween items, but once the month is up, that's it. All the items are gone forever.

This annoys me.

Limited time items have been cropping up recently and it's putting pressure on gamers worldwide. The stress of having to pre-order a game due to a costume not being available to normal players is a collector's worst nightmare.

Borderlands 2 tackles the problem by keeping their shift codes active forever (only the outfits). This can stop gamers from fretting about spending too much money. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare has pre-order items that are still available in the collecter's edition, again de-stressing players.

What are your opinions on the matter? Let us know in the comments below.

Weekly Roundup #11

This week has seen its fair share of news. Here's 2 stories that happened this week.

First up No Man's Sky, possibly the most hyped game of 2016 has now reached an all-time low by receiving overwhelmingly negative review status on Steam.

Will Sean Murray ever respond?

Lastly, someone has created a graphics mod which turns the game into a 3ds title. Reddit user Linas_002 released the mod to the public this week, making it available to everyone who owns the Witcher 3.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is Now Free For The Weekend

This weekend, we've been blessed with 2 free games.

Chivalry: Medival Warfare is now free until Sunday for everyone to experience and for a limited time you can get the game for 90% off!

Raw Data is Now Free For The Weekend

Virtual reality (VR) has been taking the world by storm in the past year. One genre that works well with VR is melee games.

Raw Data came out in July. It's one of the many games that have been taking advantage of VR and one of the few that works well. Until Sunday you can play Raw Data for free OR buy it with 25% off.

StarCraft 2 Mod Turns Game into Castle Crashers Graphics

After a successful Kickstarter the StarCrafts mod takes the base game and turns it into a Castle Crashers graphics game.

The mod, titled Starcrafts came out on Tuesday and is available to everyone who owns a copy of Starcraft 2.

In order to download it, you must search in the arcade section for star crafts mod.

Weekly Roundup #10

This week has seen the Mafia 3 release date, the funding of Wasteland 3 and the new Oculus touch controllers are announced.

Mafia III was released on the 7th (Friday). The game has been long awaited and is the latest in the Mafia franchise.

Also this week Wasteland 3 started a campaign and reached its 2.75 million goal in 3 days. Eager fans paid up to $1000 to design an NPC and receive bonus art and other goodies (the game!).

Finally, touch controllers are announced for the Oculus Rift! They're priced at $200 a pair and accompany the Oculus Rift instead of a keyboard.

Rouge Operatives Review

Just like my other Reviews I'll be splitting this up into 3 categories:

Story

Every round you have 2 teams. The rouges and the operatives. Both teams must eliminate the opponents.

3/10 Cliche fps story

Gameplay

To be honest this is one of the worst fps games I have ever witnessed to exist on steam. The game's FOV (which can't be changed) is terrible. The servers are broken and no AI support is present. The graphics look like the first Tomb Raider.

Who made this?

2/10 they can't be serious!

Sniper Elite 3 Free For The Weekend

Every other weekend steam announces 1 or 2 games that will be available to everyone for free for a limited time. This time around it's Sniper Elite 3. The latest (available to the public) in the sniper series.

Set in Africa in the second world war, you are a sniper, use the skills you received from training to take out enemies efficiently.

The game can be played free until Sunday OR you can buy the game for 80% off its original asking price.

Floppy Heroes Review

Just like my other Reviews I'll be splitting this up into 3 categories:

Story

Floppy Heroes places you in battles with other physic ragdolls. As you try to make sense of the controls you try to kill the opponent(s).

8/10 Unique style. Could use a backstory to why their fighting.

Gameplay

This game is physics based, hence why it's so hard to control the characters. This can create some interesting results in terms of combat. You can pick from melee and ranged weapons (swords and bows) with the choice of two handed or dual wielding.

10/10 Physics!

Other Features

Floppy Heroes has a key system where you win battles in order to earn keys. These keys can be traded for equipment unlocks.

With a range of body parts and weapons, you can customise your character and save them for later.

Not only do you have the singleplayer campaign but a variety of gamemodes are available such as defeat the Titan and team battles. These can only be done with AI thus no multiplayer is present.

8/10 Good choice but no multiplayer

A game that I will be keeping on my hard drive.

F1 2016 Review

Just like my other Reviews I'll be splitting this up into 3 categories:

Story

Gameplay

Other Features

Story

F1 2016 puts you in the shoes of a Formula one driver. 5 modes are available:

Championship lets you play as the best of the best.

Quick race gives you the option to pick a track and play a quick race (although this game lasts for 45 mins max).

Multiplayer gives you the option to play with your friends.

Time trail sets you a target time to race around the track.

And finally career mode gives you access to creating your own driver and pitting him against other top drivers.

8/10 Wide variety of game modes

Gameplay

First I would like to say this game is optimised for a steering wheel. For reviewing purposes, I tested with both a keyboard and a wheel and the differences are noticeable.

If you're a fan of racing games such as dirt rally then you will enjoy this game. The controls feel real and every turn affects your position. Sometimes this can be too much as one wrong turn could put you in last place even if you're in 3rd.

9/10 Real controls, maybe too real for casual players

Other Features

F1 2016 has an option to send ghosts via Steam. This means you can challenge your friend to a race without even being there.

The Steam workshop grants you access to creating or downloading new car models, which is a nice touch.

7/10 A few features

An overall good game. A big improvement from earlier games in the series.

Weekly Roundup #9

We have 3 news stories to cover today, let's start with the new BO3 DLC.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 3 latest DLC, Salvation is set for release on Xbox One and PC very soon. The new DLC brings an end to the zombies origins, which have been in the series since Call Of Duty World At War. It also brings 4 new multiplayer maps to the game.

No Man's Sky creator Hello Games are being investigated for falsely advertising their game. Many features have been removed from what fans saw at E3 such as crashed ships and the ability to land on an asteroid.

Personally, I enjoy No Man's Sky but a new update to bring everything back in is needed if Hello Games want their 94% of players picking up the game again.

Lastly Unexplored has received a major overhaul update in time for the Indigo Showcase. This update brings a new character system with 2 options, adventurer and rogue. This update has been labeled temporary by the creators and the skill tree resets every time you enter a new dungeon.

Can't Drive This Review

Just like my other Reviews I'll be splitting this up into 3 categories:

Story

Gameplay

Other Features

Story

The objective of the game is to either keep driving in order to not explode or build a track for the driver. Also at the same time you must keep above 20mph. This is a unique style of gameplay but requires 2 people to play.

You can play by yourself BUT the controls are almost impossible.

7/10 No story but borrows from Speed.

Gameplay

There's one aspect that ruins the game, the need for two people. Instead of using AI the game requires 2 people to be present but there is an option to control both the builder and the driver although this results in the game ending quickly.

That being said if you have a companion the game is a blast. The controls may be tricky but can be sorted out by using a gamepad.

8/10 No problematic gameplay.

Other Features

The music can be repetitive at times but only on the main menu. Once you press play a variety of game modes come up (most locked due to the coming soon status).

7/10 Different game modes but repetitive music

Overall

7/10
8/10

An interesting concept but needs more updates in order to smoothen things out.

A Message About CPGN

Hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? Apparently, I still get 200-300 views a month which is incredible considering this blog is slow...
