Weekly Roundup #27

Unexplored release, Steam prices to increase in Australia and New Zealand and Bethesda's new games!

Unexplored, a game we reviewed  ages ago has left early access! The rogue like RPG has received praise from fans and journalists and will continue to. JD, the developer said he will not 'abandon' the game and will fix bugs and bring more content.

On Tuesday we will be doing a giveaway for 5 copies of Unexplored courtesy of JD and his team.

Australian and New Zealand Steam users will have to pay 10% more in July. Steam has confirmed this and is bad news to all fans.

On a more positive note Bethesda has 3 new projects in the works. The name of the games are unconfirmed but we will expect to see some quality open world RPGS.

Fallout 4 is a game I was first skeptical about but now I have it i'm a big fan. Bethesda's latest installment of the post-apocalyptic franchise had mixed reviews about the DLCS but today I will be talking about the game itself.

First off the game runs well. Even on a GTX 960 it can run at ultra! The graphics are superb. The story plays a big role in the Fallout series and (in my opinion) is one of the best story concepts in the entirety of the game industry.

The characters are memorable and the map sprawls over a mass area. The best feature is base-building. You can build settlements from the ground up and with the vault-tec DLC even your own vault!

Now let's talk about the bad part.

The game has a huge amount of glitches. Character's dialogue cutting off, items not working properly and crashes. It took me an hour to get the game to run back on release day. It can be frustrating but some of them are funny.

Overall the game has a lot to offer with hundreds of hours of gameplay when you add mods but standalone it's a pretty neat game.

the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands Beta is now Live!

Fans of action games rejoice as Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands is now available for everyone to play until Monday! Players had the option to preload ahead of today to get instant access. We'll be back in a few hours to give our thoughts.

You can get the beta here.

Dropzone Review

We were given a key to review by the developers, Sparkypants.

Dropzone is a MOBA RTS where you take control of 3 mechs at a time. You can play online or offline with friends or strangers.

It's a neat game that has elements that DOTA or LOL fans would love however the problem is there isn't a playerbase. It took me 10 minutes to get into a match!

You can level up your mechs, purchase new gear and complete daily quests. The graphics are superb and the music sets the tone for the atmosphere.

I'm giving it a

For the great content but the lacking playerbase knocks points off.

Steam Greenlight is now getting discontinued in Spring. Investors in the software have now began to receive the £70 they put in.

Tavern Tycoon Review

The game key was given to me by the creators, Terapoly
This weekend I was meant to be playing Dropzone but another game caught my eye.
Tavern Tycoon.
Tavern Tycoon does what it says on the tin; You start off with a building (with purchasable extensions) and then fill it with bars, restaurants and other things. You can hire and fire people at your will. Build a stage so bard’s can sing on it. Build kitchens to serve food to guests. Build a bar to house the stories set in a far away land.
I want to stop playing so I can try Dropzone but I can’t. As stupid as it sounds there is an addictive nature to it that makes you want to stay and aid the adventurers. Within an hour my tavern went from this:

To this:

The music sets the tone for a fantasy bar. You get inspections from Lord Peter who gives you a score and a bonus. The only criticism I have for this game is the fact it’s in chapters and every time you finish one by getting enough reputation it resets the bar with all your progress.
Overall i’m giving Tavern Tycoon a

a Look at Dropzone

Today marked the release of the launch of Dropzone, an RTS created by Sparkypants Studio. We were given a key to review but we will not be doing the review until next week as we still need time to play the game.
Dropzone takes the idea of mechs and aliens to the RTS genre. You have a 3 man (or woman) squad of different size mechs all unique with their own gear and skills. You also have alter-egos which changes the way the characters work.
This is a short summary of what I’ve seen so far. I’ll be back on Friday to give my full thoughts.

Weekly Roundup #25

Steam Greenlight shutting down after 5 years, the new website and John wick chronicles!

Steam Greenlight, a voting system created by Valve to bring new games to Steam is ending this year. A new system, Steam direct will take it’s place and is currently being decided on price.
As you may have noticed we have a new website! The decision was made after Google was not cooperating with our team and WordPress offered much more.
John Wick Chronicles, a game made by OVERKILL was released on Thursday. The game follows an assassin called John Wick who is a character in PAYDAY 2 and a movie character. The game is VR only and is available to buy on Steam.

Terry Crews may Voice Doomfist in Overwatch

Terry Crews, famous for The Expendables and Brooklyn Nine-Nine is rumored to be voicing the latest character in Overwatch, the hit shooter from Blizzard.
Fans have been finding clues about the rumored hero and on the PTR server there has been clues like the gauntlet and the change of menu music.
Terry Crews did a fake audition with Yahoo! Esports where he tried out the role of Doomfist, the supposed character.
Below you can watch that audition:

#KILLALLZOMBIES Review

So first off I would like to say 2 things. We have a Steam group that does summary of the games we have reviewed and gives you links to the reviews on this blog. You can check that out here. Also we are setting out our reviews differently. Instead of having big headings we will split the sections in paragraphs and give a final score at the end.

#KILLALLZOMBIES is a zombie survival twin stick shooter made by Beatshapers. This is their first game on Steam. We have been given a key by the devs to review.

The game takes place during a zombie outbreak. You are a survivor with the choice of either a pistol or a revolver. You can move on to more advanced weapons such as an SMG or a shotgun. The aim is to keep pushing through hordes of enemies until you become overwhelmed.

There are 3 game modes. Survival, defense or coop. Survival is the basic experience. You shoot zombies until they are dead. Defense places you in charge of defending a vault containing the last human survivors. Finally you have coop where you can play with a friend to take down zombies together. Along with hordes are pickups such as health or new guns. Objects also fall from the sky to block the zombies or kill them. Deathtraps, rhinos and caravans (you can drive them!) all appear, A feature that I haven't seen in a game before is the option for Twitch (given that you're streaming) to decide your fate. Your viewers can create events like bosses and take a vote on if it should happen. This adds a nice touch to the game. In addition to this players can choose powers to get through the zombies.

In addition to a scoreboard you can check how far you went last game in the statistics menu. This helps as there is no progression. The music consists of one track but the sound effects are realistic.

Overall the game has some great gameplay and has achievements and trading cards. However the game is lacking in the audio department in terms of soundtrack but overall i'm giving #KILLALLZOMBIES a:

9/10

GFMSL #9

Today’s game is PAYDAY 2. A game about robbing banks and various other locations like shops and military bases.  Unlike the first game, the sequel has 17 characters, customization masks, a case system with unlock-able skins that can be bought with real money, weapons with customization and a bunch of other cool stuff like a safe house and a gambling system.

20170205155610_1

The main pull of the game is the heists. Players can take contracts from various businessmen in return for some cold, hard cash. With music by Simon Viklund to accompany the heist you can either go in stealthy or loud.
Now that you know about the game here’s the pros and cons. For starters it has a great progression system with an upgrade-able safe house and different levels for every class. Every character is unique and plays a part in the backstory of the franchise. The downsides are more related to playing. Playing with strangers is a chore as most players quit the match halfway through due to a rage quit and the bots  aren’t the smartest either.
In conclusion PAYDAY 2 is fun if you have some friends to play with. I’m putting this game in the good section.

Grave Matters Review

Grave Matters is a puzzle adventure game about collecting health for Harley Burke. The game is made by Ideonic. I have been given a copy via the devs.

Grave Matters takes place in acts. You must dig up energy cells to save a man named Harley Burke. You are accompanied by Bobby, a lovable dog.

The game plays like a minesweeper match. You dig up energy cells but be careful not to dig up the stormborgs which kill you. You can use the warnings to avoid them or get Bobby to take the death. You can also use Harley to kill stormborgs via a lightning strike. These sound good but you can only use Bobby once per act (there are 3 acts) and the lightning strikes 3 times.

The game however is a port of the mobile version so the controls are sensitive and even on the Steam store description it says:
Use the energy you collect, to unlock character upgrades, so you can progress further and demolish your friends high scores on Game Center.

Upgrades, classical music and a minesweeper style gives this game a:

we Tried the Torchlight Mobile Chinese Beta. Here are our Thoughts

I love Torchlight 2. Ever since I got it in the Jingle Jam I've been playing it every week. When I heard there was a mobile version being released I got excited.

Last night I did some research and found out that there is a beta version in China. I wasted no time to create a Chinese Apple id and download it. Here's what I found.

(And for the record I don't speak mandarin but it was easy to figure out what was going on thanks to icons).

Straight off the bat the first thing I notice are some decent looking visuals ( for a mobile game).

You can choose from 3 classes (one is visible but can not be chosen). Kitsune, engineer and warrior. So far you can level them up to lvl 60 and i'm guessing a level boost will take place. Just like Torchlight you can have more than 1 slot. The levels are not open and the combat is basic but that's expected from a mobile game.

the first thing I notice is that the game has premium currency. In the picture below I have highlighted in red where the pay to win element is present. Of course we can't dislike the game just because the game is not truly free to play, how would the devs make money? However they have added energy which means you can only play the game for a certain amount of time. Even backpack upgrades aren't free!

Some other features I found were daily rewards, vendors for enchantments and guilds. The progression system and the loot is well done.

In conclusion, this mobile adaption of a great PC game is coming across as P2W so far but it still doesn't put me off.

Is it pay to win to the point that it's unplayable with a free account?
No

Will I have to spend hours grinding for loot?
Yes

A Message About CPGN

Hello! It's been a while, hasn't it? Apparently, I still get 200-300 views a month which is incredible considering this blog is slow...
