Just Cause 3 Review

I Remember You From Panau!

Just Cause 3, the latest in the Just Cause series and the successor to
one of the 3 games that I can play for hours on end.

The way i'll do this review is by splitting it up into 3 sections:

Story

Gameplay

Other Features

I've played 63 hours of Just Cause 3 (50 hours is the minimum for a review).

Story

The story takes place on the island of Medici, a fictional island off the coast of Italy (this
is also Rico, the main characters hometown). He returns after leaving the agency which he just completed a contract in Panau. He finds that the rebels are planning to overthrow the dictator Di Ravello and he must help them. Simple right? While the story makes sense it doesn't play a big part in the game and can easily be completed in 5 hours (without doing any other side missions). For this i give the story 6/10 for not being important but providing a backstory for the game.

Gameplay

Let's start with the shooting mechanics. Throughout the game you will unlock guns, guns of all sizes. SMGS ,Rocket Launchers, Pistols, Rifles you name it, this game has it (apart from laser weapons). The shooting can sometimes feel clunky as I felt I wasn't shooting but more punching. Of course there are no weapon attachments but there have never been in any of the 3 games.

Next up is the driving. This is where the game stands out. Compared the previous games where vehicles were hard to control and blew up easily Just Cause 3 had driving as good as a racing game and durability like GTA V. The flying feels fresh and I'll cover the amazing Cargo Plane in the other features.

The rebel drop acts as the new black market. Here you can order weapons and vehicles such as the UPU-210 or the Nashorn. when you order an item it takes up a beacon (which can be found when doing encounters or liberated settlements) and on top of that you have to wait for a certain amount of time (normally 30 minutes).

The final mechanic is the grappling hook/wingsuit/parachute. Rico has the ability to deploy a parachute (which is a standard in every Just Cause) however he also has the option to deploy a wingsuit which acts a plane (kind of) you can also do a backflip in midair with it.

Instead of 1 tether you can now unlock up to 6 tethers in the new 'challenges'.

These reward you with gears which are used to unlock upgrades such as more grenades or gain features like being able to shoot while reeling in.

I would rate the gameplay 8/10 for good driving but clunky shooting and wide range of weapons and vehicles but having to wait for a cooldown (which can be removed eventually

Other Features

This is what makes Just Cause 3, Just Cause 3. I'll start with the encounters.

Encounters are random events around the map such as towing a broken car to a garage or hijacking a convoy with kidnapped rebels. These events helps give a reason to go driving around the map.

The blue icon on the left indicates an encounter.

Next up is the easter eggs. There are too many easter eggs. I'll give you a few of them:

The black/blue dress
Giant Rideable rubber ducky
Soapbox
Doctor Who weeping angels
Pogo stick
Big head gun

and many more!

Finally the cargo plane.

The cargo plane is the greatest plane known to man.

You can go inside and store whatever you can fit (a tank for example) and fly into the air and launch the tank from the air. This is what GTA V needs.

I'm giving this category a 10/10 for superb open world features and plenty of easter eggs.

Overall

6/10
8/10
10/10

= 24/30

A good game but needs better shooting mechanics
